Too Drunk to Blog

I guess I should begin with the fact that I am so drunk. I went to a lame-ass motorcycle rally today for work. Of course I didn't do anything. It was down in Seabrook at Hooters. They had a "battle of the bands"...and all of them but one SUCKED. They all thought they were Tool. It was so weak. It made me feel a little bit better about myself seeing all those posers. There was one cool band though called The Quinns. They play Ska, and they brought down the house. They are so indie, they wrote on their sampler cd with a Sharpie! You can stream some of their songs here:

I don't know what I mean, really.

The news has tripped me out lately. There's so much going on...

Kudos to the British for dropping the hammer on the terrorists. Screw those bastards. Except that it's making us look bad. I mean, why don't we see the US catching terrorists like that? Maybe it's because we are just more effective at preventing them from getting as far as they did in London these days. I hope so.

My community has been all upset by the trouble with the space shuttle as we are the home base for NASA. I just can't understand why they can't keep something that seems like such a minor structural problem from happening when they can do all that other shit. What I think was worse was their announcement that the space shuttle program was grounded before they got Discovery back to Earth. I mean, that doesn't seem like very good PR to me. On a sidenote: It was very strange and exciting when Columbia crashed because I happened to be in my hometown in East Texas. The collision was about 60-75 miles away from town and it still shook my parent's house. I thought it was an earthquake and ran into the bathroom. Later on my friend Harmon when to the site to help look for pieces of the destroyed ship.

There was another explosion at the British Petroleum refinery in Texas City today. Yes, the same one that had the huge blast earlier this summer. Things like that interest me because I don't understand them. The company I work for manufactures flare stack monitors to control the environmental output of flares burning off waste in petrochemical plants. My dad has tried to explain how those plants work, but I just can't understand it. And the end result of it all amazes me. The idea of production and processes interests me because I, like many people, am impatient. It is difficult sometimes when you are learning how life really works when you aren't looking for shortcuts.

My co-worker brought me the new Rolling Stone today. I read it and threw it in the trash. I used to love that magazine, but its become the mouthpiece of "an industry of cool" and a vulgar platform for liberal propaganda. Has anybody actually read Rolling Stone Magazine lately? I mean, I had forgiven their transgressions against Led Zeppelin. I was even able to forget the offensive review of America's Sweetheart. But this time, they've totally sold out. I'm thoroughly disgusted. I'll never read Rolling Stone again.

"Coronary Heart Disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S. Each year, more than 500,000 Americans die of heart attacks caused by CHD."

Today I had a thought. If heart disease is the number one killer of Americans, does that mean that they died of a broken heart?

I mean, that makes sense to me. I can't imagine dying from anything else, can you? If your heart is what keeps you alive, and it breaks, then logically you would die, right? This might scare some people, but not me. It actually makes me hopeful. It reminds me that I am not truly heartbroken, because I am not dead.

Thursday doesn't even start...

It's been a slow few days. I started Weight Watchers on Tuesday, and I think it's the neatest program ever. I really enjoy couting up my points. It's not as convenient as just eating, but it makes it more of a game. Last night I watched "So You Think You Can Dance" and I love that show. I used to be a dancer, way back when, and I love to watch people dance with skill. It really makes me miss it. I finally saw something interesting on the net today...

Monday Musings

I conquered my trepidation from this morning. I had some stress with my dad over the weekend, but I was able to vent to a co-worker today and I feel better now. I've seen some interesting stuff on the internet today. I saw that Gwen Stefani was nominated for several MTV Video Awards, for Hollaback Girl. I am shocked. Only Gwen could pull off a song that dumb I guess. Lance Armstrong won the Tour de'France. Like I could leave out something like that. It's like you have to mention it. I saw him imply to Ann Curry (whom I love) on The Today Show that he wants to run for governor of Texas in the future. I get the distinct feeling he would win that election, governator-style. After work I saw the most racist commercial I've ever seen. It was a Burger King commercial where these 4 ghetto-fabulous superheroes save the "hood" from the "old way of eating chicken." Yes, it used those words. It was what Dave Chappelle calls "so racist you aren't even offended. Just shocked." Otherwise it's been a pretty boring day. I am starting Weight Watchers tomorrow to get my figure back. That sounds weak, I know, but I think it will really help me lose the weight and get healthy again. I need that kind of structure and support. So I will probably be writing about that. Hopefully I will meet some nice people there. It's rough being relatively alone in a big city. It's hard to meet people that you really connect with. And I am not interested in cheap relationships anymore. Of any kind. Because one day you might wake up and they might all be gone, then what will you do?

Monday, Monday, can't trust that day...

Good morning, it's Monday. Another day at work. Kurt Busch won at Pocono yesterday. Jeffy came in at 13th, which is okay I guess. Yesterday was dissapointing in so many ways...hopefully today will bring some encouragement.

That's hot.

I am back from the drag races. It was pretty cool. One thing I've noticed about motorcycling is that not too many cute boys are into it, heh. There was one I noticed with his shirt off, and he had a really hot tribal tattoo on his back. But he ruined it with a big tattoo of some kind of woman's face on his bicep. Gross. But it was hot to see the guys go so fast on the bikes. The fastest one ran at 154 mph. I would like to date a racer. But he would have to look like Jeff Gordon.

I love Jeff Gordon

I am in Houston this weekend, so I am going to the All-Harley Drag Races (AHDRA) in Baytown tonight. This is not something I would do of my own free will, but my dad got the tickets for free and it's either that or stay at home, so I thought I'd give it a try. Good for some beer and scoping cute boys. I acquired a Harley-Davidson halter top I can sport, so it works out I suppose. Tomorrow I am going to Hooters with him to watch the Nascar Race. I know, I can't believe it either, but I have grown to love Nascar and Jeff Gordon. That man can do incredible things with a racecar. Please keep your fingers crossed in hopes that he finishes well. The past few races have been terrible luck for Jeffy.

Friday's my off-day

Both my bosses are gone, so I decided to "take the day off" at the office, since I have to work next Sunday. Thus, the birth of blush reality. I have taken to web browsing in my free time here, so from time to time I will share what I find. Today is one of those days.

What do you do about an ego like this?

American royalty? My stomach is turning. All I can do is shake my head. A barely-literate socialite turned peculiarly-popular reality tv-star and notoriously spoiled brat? Don't get me wrong, I like Paris more than Nicole, but what has this country come to when someone like Paris Hilton can declare themselves 'American Royalty' and not be laughed/shamed off the face of the earth??

Saddle Creek is releasing some new albums in August.

Poor Courtney. It never ends. We should all pray for her. Maybe get her a red string for her wrist from Madonna.

Rilo Kiley's video for Portions For Foxes and other good stuff is on MTV Overdrive Subterranean this week.

Stuff like this really bothers me for some reason. How irresponsible.

Last night I stayed up and watched Conan O'Brien and they had John Tesh as a guest. I always think John Tesh is simply too uncool, and I am always surprised when I see his interviews. He is actually a pretty cool guy if you can get past his music. He's got a great sense of humor made apparent by Conan's "Animal Planet-The Tesh" spoof. If I find a link I'll post it. I wish I were as cool as Mr. Tesh...

Man it is raining really hard outside. I can't stand the weather here. I want to move away as soon as possible. But for now, all I can do is just go home, if you can even call it that.

My name is blush, pleasure to meet you.

Please forgive me if the tone is a little disjointed and insecure these first few weeks. I am something of a newbie. That's okay though, blind dates are always awkward. I am sure that we will become great friends, regardless. Until then, how about this for a tone-setter?

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will
expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about
yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't
be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a
different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your
mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now.
They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and
listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before
you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation,
try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS
NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll
give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This
doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very
few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that
on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave
the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
